With the La Rochelle Océan Pass, everything is already in your pocket. We put it to the test on a discovery-filled weekend, combining heritage, ocean views, boat trips and excursions off the beaten track. Follow us!

Day 1

Setting Sail in La Rochelle

As soon as we arrive in La Rochelle, the tone is set. Thanks to the transport options included in the pass, we easily reach the Old Harbour aboard a Yélo bus. The pass offers unlimited travel on the local transport network, including the electric ferry and the sea bus. It also covers regional TER trains across Nouvelle-Aquitaine and several regional coach routes.

It’s impossible to miss the Towers of La Rochelle. From the top of the Lantern Tower, the panoramic view over the harbour and the Atlantic Ocean reveals just how deeply connected this city has been to the sea for centuries.

After a lunch break beneath the arcades of the historic city centre, we head to the Maritime Museum. Between legendary vessels and sailors’ stories, the visit naturally extends the city’s rich maritime heritage.

Next, we set off on one of the signature experiences included in the pass: a boat trip at sea. Among the many cruises available, today we chose the guided tour around Fort Boyard. Seeing the imposing silhouette of the fort emerge from the waves remains a must during any stay on France’s Atlantic coast.

At the end of the afternoon, you can also take advantage of a discounted ticket to La Rochelle Aquarium, when it is generally quieter, before enjoying a seafood platter or the region’s traditional mussels and fries along the waterfront.

The Pass That Takes You Further

La Rochelle Océan Pass

The La Rochelle Océan Pass goes far beyond the city itself. It gives access to more than 40 attractions, activities and visitor experiences across La Rochelle, Rochefort, Marennes-Oléron, the Marais Poitevin, Île d’Aix, Saintes, South Vendée, and the islands of Ré and Oléron.

More importantly, it encourages a different way of travelling. Regional trains, Yélo buses, the sea bus, the electric ferry and regional coach services make it easy to explore the area without a car while reducing your environmental footprint.

Day 2

Exploring Beyond La Rochelle

The following morning, it’s time for a change of scenery. We hop on a TER regional train to Rochefort, also included in the pass. In less than thirty minutes, we are exploring the Corderie Royale and the former Royal Naval Arsenal, landmarks that helped shape the city’s reputation.

In the afternoon, several options are available.

Nature lovers can head to the Marais Poitevin for a peaceful boat ride along its winding canals. Those passionate about heritage may prefer Brouage, Fouras or Île d’Aix. Beach enthusiasts can make their way to the long sandy shores of the islands of Oléron and Ré. Others may choose to stay in La Rochelle and visit the Natural History Museum, the New World Museum, or join a guided tour of the city.

That’s the beauty of the La Rochelle Océan Pass: everyone can create a stay that matches their own interests and pace.
