All you need to know
La Rochelle markets
Whether it’s for your daily shopping or to prepare a meal for a special occasion, we love strolling through the stalls of La Rochelle’s markets. And of course, finishing with a coffee or an impromptu oyster tasting on a terrace… The best part? No matter the day, there’s always a market in La Rochelle to delight you!
Every morning
La Rochelle central market (Les Halles)
Since the 19th century, local producers and residents of La Rochelle have gathered every morning under the covered market and on the square. A fresh market where you can find fish, oysters, potatoes from Île de Ré, delicious bread and more. And don’t miss Alain, who will invite you to discover his “Mara des Bois Extra, Mara des Bois de Pays” strawberries when the fine weather arrives!
🛍️ On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the market expands into the surrounding streets with textiles, local cosmetics, and other great finds.

Friday afternoons
Place de Verdun Market
Many residents of La Rochelle see this market as an extension of the central one: stalls spread out across Place de Verdun and along Rue Gargoulleau. Stop by the Fleurs des Salières stand to pick up a bouquet of flowers grown on Ré Island, meet local producers, and treat yourself to a slice of gâche vendéenne or a little fresh goat cheese.
Sunday mornings – Place Montréal
La Pallice Market
Without a doubt the most popular one! A large family-friendly market where street vendors mingle with food stalls. Here you’ll shop for spices, vegetables, world cuisine, and little treats to enjoy on the spot. It’s hard to leave La Pallice Market empty-handed!
💡 Just a stone’s throw away, Café Pop’ is the perfect place to keep the good vibes going.

Wednesdays from 3 pm to 7 pm – Parc de Laleu
Grand organic bazaar of Laleu
A 100% organic, zero-waste market with local producers – it’s the favorite of La Rochelle residents who care about the environment. Bring your own containers, nets, glass jars, tote bags… and leave with healthy, local, seasonal products.
For those starting out on their zero-waste journey, affordable textile containers and returnable glass jars are also available.

Wednesday mornings – Place du 14 Juillet
Villeneuve-les-Salines market
A lively, friendly neighborhood market, perfect for everyday shopping at low prices: food, clothing, and practical items.
Friday mornings – Avenue de la Résistance
Mireuil market
Located just a stone’s throw from Kennedy Park, this small neighborhood market brings together around ten vendors. Perfect for picking up local, seasonal fruit and vegetables with ease.
Thursday mornings – Place de l’Île de France,
Port Neuf market
This is one of the most vibrant markets in the city. Every Thursday morning, Port Neuf Market comes alive in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Here, local producers (fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese etc.) mingle with street vendors and neighborhood shopkeepers, under the friendly eye of the community center and regulars from the area.
☕ A great idea: take a break with a mint tea at the food truck, between your shopping stops.
Tuesday mornings – Place des Britanniques
Tasdon market
The square in front of Tasdon Church comes alive with the neighborhood market, where residents meet in a friendly atmosphere to stock up on fresh, local products. This small, welcoming market is ideal for meeting local producers and shopkeepers while enjoying the spirit of the neighborhood.
How about exploring the markets across the wider area?
Markets don’t stop at La Rochelle’s city limits! In the surrounding towns too, every community has its own gourmet rendezvous: from Nieul-sur-Mer to Sainte-Soulle, from Périgny to Châtelaillon-Plage, stalls set up all year round, on weekdays as well as weekends. A perfect way to discover local products while exploring the nearby villages.
Tips from La Rochelle locals
👜 We always carry a tote bag, just in case…
🌱 Choose local producers to eat healthily and support the local economy.
☕ And when the sun is shining, take a seat on a terrace to make the moment last, that too is part of the La Rochelle way of life.
